Sermon Study Guides - Sermon Study Guides

Our study guides are designed to help you and your small group extend the teaching and lessons from a sermon. For each completed series there is a booklet which contains the study guides for all the sermons. It is also possible to download the study guide related to a specific sermon.

In most cases, there may be more questions and exercises than your group has time to do. Keep in mind that this is a tool for your use, not a regimen.

Let the Spirit lead you and your group accordingly.

Vision and Mentor Description

"I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe."'

-Ephesians 1:17-19

I. Vision Statement: To develop mentoring relationships which enhance participants' growth in transparency, authenticity, and vulnerability, and which enable the mentors (in a spirit of wisdom, revelation, and love) to guide their mentored partners to discern next steps in their spiritual growth.

A. The Mentor
• Is a regularly attending member of MPPC.
• Provides a covenant relationship that offers safety, confidentiality and acceptance as a model of God's love.
• Demonstrates and encourages Christian spiritual maturity while shepherding and guiding the mentored partner.
• Acknowledges, practices, and celebrates personal talents and gifts, and is committed to spiritual growth.
• Depends on the Holy Spirit for discernment and direction.
• Encourages a hope-filled vision of becoming the person God intended.
• Commits to dependence on scripture and the power of prayer.
• Admits limitations, and suggests alternative resources.
• Pursues one's own Christian transformational journey through regular meetings with spiritual friends or mentor to provide opportunities for prayer, accountability, encouragement, vulnerability, and counsel.

B. The mentor models and teaches:
• Prayerfulness
• Engagement with God's Word
• Truth-telling with gentleness and respect
• Boundary-setting
• Building healthy relationship dynamics

C. The mentoree:
• Is committed to personal spiritual growth
• Desires a closer relationship with God
• Wants a mentor who will prayerfully help you determine the next step in your journey

Find help in putting the pieces together after a divorce or a breakup of a significant relationship.

Everything, as we know it, changes. Our friendships, relationships with family and children, and even everyday activities like house cleaning, handling our finances, cooking and eating habits. Perhaps most importantly, our view of ourselves changes. We may feel unlovable, inadequate, or like a failure.

Divorce & Relationship Recovery is a place where you will be with people who understand what you are feeling. You will hear valuable information about ways to heal and begin putting your life together again.

We feature presentations by experts, either in person or by video. Presenters include psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers, pastors, attorneys and other individuals who have significant information to share on recovery issues.

In addition to the presentation each night, there is time for questions and answers with the presenter, and time to be in a small, confidential group with others to discuss the presentation and receive support. There is also an opportunity to network with others who are recovering from a breakup and to make new friends.

Divorce & Relationship Recovery meets 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. every Monday night of the year, including holidays, in Garden Court on the main campus of MPPC. No membership, no commitment required -- just come. See below for more information and calendar of events. Free childcare is provided for children 3mos - 5th grade upon arrival by 7:40 p.m. Contact: Monte Fisher, 650.888.3215, mfisher@hotmail.com.
